Change Management - Technology Change Request Phases
Effective change management ensures the continued integrity, stability and security of the district’s computing environment and facilitates the effective coordination, planning and communication of changes for all educational partners. For additional details, please refer to the Change Management User Guide.
Overview
Technology Services employs a comprehensive, standardized process for all changes that impact the production environment. This protocol ensures that changes are thoroughly reviewed prior to implementation, and that they are made efficiently and with a minimal amount of disruption to operations:
Initiation Phase
A Change Request is required to initiate the change management process. Detailed information about the nature, scope and requirements are provided in the Change Request.
Planning Phase
The change request is assessed to determine its priority, the required Level of Effort (LOE) and develop a change plan and backout plan. Educational partners review the request to determine approval status.
Development & Testing
Implementers develop, configure, or prepare the change in a sandbox or test environment. All testing is completed to ensure the change works as expected and does not introduce unintended issues.
Approval
Educational partners and required approvers validate alignment with business needs and provide final approval for release to production.
Production Release
The approved change is deployed to the production environment following the established release process. Implementers verify that the change has been successfully released.
In-Review
After the production release, the requester and all involved educational partners verify that the change meets all defined requirements and is functioning as intended. If additional work is identified that falls outside the scope of the initial change request, the team will determine whether a new Change Request is required.
Completion
Once all requirements have been verified and no further issues remain, the Change Request is formally closed.
